This week (1st to 7th June) is Volunteers Week, and we here at Championing Social Care want to celebrate and appreciate all those volunteers that make our programmes happen, as well as inspire you to join in!
Volunteers Week is an awareness week run by the National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) as a way to recognise the power and impact of volunteering, as well as encourage more people to get involved and volunteer in their local community. It first started in 1984, when it was organised by Volunteering England, but is now run by NCVO.
Over the years, this awareness week has grown and now organisations across the UK take this time to thank their volunteers. Across the UK, millions of people donate their time, with 16.3 million people formally volunteering in 2020/21, and nearly one in five in the population volunteering once a month. However, the number of people volunteering has still not yet recovered from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, so this year, we want to inspire more people to take the time to volunteer in their communities.
Championing Social Care is definitely aware of the impact of volunteering – we are, after all, a volunteer-led cross-sector initiative! We could not do the work we do without all of our volunteers – from sector leaders running committees for each of our flagship programmes, to every organisation involved donating time behind the scenes, to individuals volunteering on the day of our programme events to make it run smoothly, volunteers are key to the success of Championing Social Care.
Volunteers are involved in every part of Championing Social Care – we had volunteers taking donations at tables and looking after guests at the Care Sector Fundraising ball, sitting on the judging panel at Care Sector’s Got Talent, attending committee meetings to organise each and every programme, reaching out to sign up care homes for Care Home Open Week, and much, much more! We want to take the time to thank each and every one of the volunteers involved in Championing Social Care; we have 90 ambassadors who champion our mission and the social care sector, 50 sector leaders sitting on our committees, and countless volunteers attending each and every one of our programmes!
Message from the Championing Social Care Ambassador:
Championing Social Care absolutely would not be the success it is without the hard work, dedication, and care that each and every volunteer puts in to making our programmes happen. Our volunteers are true champions who help us and the sector sparkle and we thank them for what they do.
