The second-ever ‘Great British Care Cycle Relay is gearing up to ride across the country in tandem with Care Home Open Week.
The Relay will start at Sale in Greater Manchester on Monday 24th June. Over the course of five days, riders will cover more than 300 miles, ending in West London on Friday 28th June.
It is still possible to register to take part in the Relay, although places are fast running out.
Care Home Open Week and the Care Cycle Relay are initiatives run by Championing Social Care. The aim is to shine a positive light on the work of the care sector.
Ed Maxfield, Director of Championing Social Care, said:
“The Relay is a fun way to highlight the amazing care work that is done across the country. Our theme is Connecting Communities and our aim is to show that care is at the heart of local communities.”
Each day, the Relay is split into three stages that are roughly 20 miles long. Each stage will start and end at a Care Home. There’s no registration fee or fundraising target – the organisers just want to use the event to focus on care and to make it as easy to take part as possible.
For the first time, the Relay will also feature a ‘Scottish leg’ the weekend of 22nd/23rd June. A small group of riders will cover the distance from Gretna Green to Greater Manchester before handing over the baton to riders in the official Relay on Monday 24th.
Care Home Open Week is a well-established event with a large proportion of care homes holding events aimed at connecting with their local communities. Care Home Open Week and the Relay are made possible by the generous financial support of Virgin Money, Christie & Co. and Civitas Investment Management. The Relay is managed by pie events who have a long track-record of managing cycling events. It is also supported by law firm Brown Jacobson whose team will provide volunteers throughout the week to support riders.
