FAQs for Care Homes
- Do I need to register my care home as a Care Home Open Week event?
We recommend that you do register your Care Home Open Week event here to receive up to date information to help you organise your event and appear on our interactive map so your community can find you!
2. Can I host an in-person event at my care home?
We hope that this year Care Home Open Week events will be in person! However, we know some homes will need or would prefer to host a virtual event, so we will be offering support for both types of open events.
We of course recommend following all guidelines in your area at the time of the event.
3. Are we required to host an event on each day of the Care Home Open Week?
It is not necessary to host multiple events, one good event can have a great impact to showcase the best of your home. However, some may find it useful to host events at different times and days during the week to engage with the maximum number of people. Different events may also allow you to host different activities showcasing the variety of services and activities available at your care home, for example engaging with schools during the week and your neighbours over the weekend. The key is to make your event fun, engaging and informative.
4. When can I start promoting my Care Home Open Week event?
No better time than the present! With Care Home Open Week not too far away, it is encouraged that you start sharing details of your Care Home Open Week events across your social media channels, newsletters and distribution lists. Further information on how you can promote your event is available in the Care Home Open Week event pack (available late March).
5. Can I invite any special guests to my Care Home Open Week event?
Yes! This is a great opportunity to invite prominent people including MPs, Councillors, Mayors and others from the community, to join your Care Home Open Week event, and for them to get an insight into the great work of your care home in your local area. Many MPs have already said they would like to join a Care Home Open Week event, and if you would like to host an MP, please do get in touch with us at ku.gr1656674524o.noi1656674524tadnu1656674524ofhce1656674524terac1656674524@eraC1656674524laico1656674524Sgnin1656674524oipma1656674524hC1656674524.
6. What activities can I host at my Care Home Open Weekevemt?
All Care Home Open Week events should be planned within government COVID guidelines to make sure that residents, team members and guests are safe.
During Care Home Open Week 2021, the country was still in lockdown so care homes rose to the challenge to host fantastic virtual events. Some of these included schools running virtual buddying days and music sessions with older people! Care services hosted blue light breakfasts, inviting blue light workers to collect a free drive-through breakfast to thank them for their support and one MP took on a new role, as quizmaster, hosting a virtual quiz with care home residents in his constituency!
Often home with host garden parties, quizes and kareoke nights too! Further ideas can be found in the Care Home Open Week event Pack.
7. Is it only Care Homes for the Elderly that are participating in Care Home Open Week?
Care Home Open Week is for all those providing care services. This includes those supporting adults with learning difficulties or younger adults living with dementia, to name a few.
